fresh water pearl
Fresh water pearls are pearls cultivated in freshwater, or found naturally in mussels living in freshwater rivers. Now made very affordable due to the low priced pearls from Chinese freshwater pearl farms.
These cultured pearls are made by inserting a tiny grain into the mussel or oyster. The shellfish then coats the grain, which with time becomes a pearl.
Pearls have been treasured throughout history. Beautiful pearl jewelry worn by the royals
The Egyptians valued pearls. Mainly for jewelry, but Egyptian queen Cleopatra had other uses for pearls. There is this story about pearls dissolved in vinegar drunk by Cleopatra, who served one huge pearl to Marc Anthony in the most expensive dinner ever. Back then pearls were so rare and costly. Marc Anthony was very impressed with that dinner.
Fresh water pearls are very affordable these days. They happen to be the ideal 12th wedding anniversary gift and 30th wedding anniversary gift.
