How to make hoop earrings from gemstone beads

Make a pair of hoop gemstone earrings

When I first started making beaded earrings, I worked with beading wires to create all sorts of shapes for my earrings. Those beading techniques can also be used on chips of semi precious stones with holes drilled through them, or on gemstone beads.

For that, you need some pretty gemstone beads. Enough to form 2 identical, or at least, very similar circles when threaded together. You also need some beading wire and earring castings. Choose the gemstones to go into the earrings casting.

Use silver beading wire if you choose gemstones in cool colors. Use gold beading wire if you choose gemstones in warm colors.

Ready?

Start making the dangling hoops for the earrings

Split the gemstones into 2 groups with the same number of similar gemstones in each group.

Arrange the gemstones with the largest gemstones in the center and the smallest gems at the ends.

Thread the gemstones with the beading wire, leaving 2 inches of wire dangling from each end.

Twist both ends of the wire evenly, tightly together all the way so that from the beads, you see just 1 tightly twisted wire.

Attach the hoop to the casting

If your earring casting has a loop where you can attach the wire, then loop the twisted wire through the hoop, back down to the top bead and twirl the twisted wire around the wire just above the top of that top bead to close and secure the loop. Cut off the excess wire.

If the earring casting does not seem to have any place you can attach that hoop, then attach it to the lowest prong before you secure the gemstone in the prongs.

Do the same with the other earring.
