malachite
Malachite is an opaque gemstone with an iridescent green color. In the olden days, it was used to make green paint until around 1800. The stone was used to make green eye makeup used by Egyptian women.
The green color that characterizes malachite comes from copper. Incidentally, the name malachite comes from Malakhe which means marshmallow plant. It was so named because of its green color.
Malachite is a fragile stone. Care must be taken to avoid scratching the stones. Avoid sharp blows on malachite.
