moissanite
Moissanite was originally from a star. Actually, the first bits of natural moissanite were found on an ancient meteorite. These were tiny crystals of silicon carbide. As Dr. Moissan found them, the moissanite was named after him. A century later, a process was developed to make larger crystals of moissanite, suitable for jewelry making.
This synthetic moissanite has since been cut like diamonds as a cheaper substitute for diamonds. Loved for its beauty and its affordable pricing, moissanite is a smart choice for the fashion savvy. Incidentally, moissanite is tougher than diamonds and is more brilliant, has a brighter fire than diamonds and a higher luster index.
