Sapphire
Sapphire is a beautiful gemstone that is usually. Valued throughout the ages. J.R. Tolkein's novel, The Silmarian, which was set in the timeline before the Lord of The Rings, The king of the gods, Manwe, wore sappires. Manwe rules the skies which are blue, hence his gemstone was the sapphire.
Sapphire is the September birthstone. It is also the gemstone for the 5th wedding anniversary, 23rd wedding anniversary and the 454th wedding anniversary. The star sapphire, however, is the 65th wedding anniversary birthstone.
Although we tend to associate sapphire with blue, sapphires can be pink, white, yellow, green, brown, purple or orange. In fact, the orange pink sapphire is the rarer and more precious than the blue sapphire.
The star sapphire is cut in a cabochon style to show a cats eye, or a 6 ray or even 12 ray star.
Ancient civilizations have many legends about sapphires. The ancient Persians believe the earth rests on a sapphire which reflects onto the sky making it blue, while other ancient civilisations believe that the sky itself is a giant sapphire.
Sapphires are worn by kings for protection against harm. Sapphires represent truth and sincerity.
